Ethos

Having a plan

and sticking to it

Banbury Cross Football Club is a brand new football club that started out with an Under 11 team for the 2024-25 season (school year 6 in September 2024). We are growing the club and are now building for an Under 9’s team.

Our ethos is simple – this club is about teamwork, support, encouragement, improvement and fairness. Every player in the matchday squad will be playing an equal part in the match. Some players might be on the pitch slightly longer than others but the aim is for every player to play at least one half of a match and come away knowing that whatever the result, we get there together – as 1 unit.

As the team grows together and the players get used to one-another, the rewards will come and the hard work will pay-off. We all need to be patient with the children as they develop at different rates but the more they play together, the stronger they will become and the results will follow.

Let’s not forget, this is amateur football played on a Saturday morning!

Keep it simple

It takes a while for a new team to gel but if we keep it simple with a clear ethos, good things will prevail

Step 1

Getting a group of children together to have fun playing in a team environment. Figuring out who’s good at what, getting used to each other, and encouraging one-another to improve every week.

Step 2

Listening to the children, guiding them to make good decisions and creating a style of play that suits their abilities. Always encouraging and praising the players but making sure they are improving and working on their weaknesses.

Step 3

Friendly matches in July/August to put their skills into a match environment. Start the competitive league season in September and sticking with our ethos during each and every game……supporting at all times!
